Kimberton Whole Foods Releases its own Cookbook

There are stacks of cookbooks written by Pennsylvania-based authors and chefs that every locavore home chef should own, and now there is one more to add to the fold! Local food heroes, Kimberton Whole Foods, have been doing the natural-grocery-store-thing long before it was trendy, and it’s still going strong with six bustling locations in southeastern PA, and with ever-strengthening relationships with hundreds of local farmers, artisans and producers.

Now, it’s taken another step in its mission to be “a community market with a passionate commitment to integrity, sustainable agriculture and Fair Trade,” according to its website. Kimberton Whole Foods has written and published a cookbook!

Pat Brett, co-owner of Kimberton Whole Foods, and her son Colin, co-wrote Kimberton Whole Foods Cookbook: A Family History with Recipes (Hickory Grove Publishing, 2018) with local journalist and writer, Courtney Diener-Stokes, to take us behind the scenes into their home and family life, both of which are integral to their community and business endeavors.

This family history includes over 60 recipes spanning the 32-year heritage of Kimberton Whole Foods, along with stories of local growers and makers, reflecting the Bretts’ and, by extension, Kimberton Whole Foods’ commitment to local agriculture.

“Over the years customers have asked us to share the recipes for their favorites from the cafe. We’ve finally put them together in this book. Many of our best-loved family meals and desserts are included too, such as the delicious carrot cake I make every year for my husband’s birthday. I am delighted to share our recipes, and our family story, with everyone,” says Pat Brett.

Once the book launches on Saturday, December 1, you can shop for the Kimberton Whole Foods Cookbook online, or in any of the market’s locations. Pick up a copy to delve into this amazing local story and the delicious recipes with a Pennsylvania focus!
