Pittsburgh Named 5th Best Vegetarian City in America

In a list researched and compiled by the website Apartmentguide, “The 10 Best Cities for Vegetarians in America,” and while it might be totally meat-obsessed, Pittsburgh, PA was right up there in 5th place (between Savannah, Georgia in 6th and Ann Arbor, Michigan in 4th)!

We’re not at all surprised, with an array of vegetarian and vegan restaurants across the Steel City, like the Eastern European pierogies-and-more restaurant, APTEKA (also a local favorite for craft cocktails), punk-rock Asian and American comfort food joint, Onion Maiden, and seasonal, “vegetable forward” bistro, Supper in Federal Galley.

Best Cocktails Pittsburgh

Craft cocktails are popular at APTEKA

The Apartmentguide list tallied up all the vegetarian-related business and weight them against census data in each city to crunch its statistics. In Pittsburgh, it measured that there is one per every 2,653 people in the city: 2 organic, 76 vegetarian and 36 vegan cafes in total. That means you could go out twice a week, every week for a year, to a different vegetarian/vegan-friendly establishment each time!

Even omnivorous restaurants and cafes in Pittsburgh tend to have phenomenal veg options on deck, like sweet potato, black bean and cheese arepas at Cilantro & Ajo, tofu substitution for meat in the noodle bowls at Noodlehead, and vegan Beyond Sausages at Franktuary.
