The General to Replace the Shuttered Barren Hill Tavern & Brewpub

A new dining concept, The General, is headed to the Lafayette Hill spot at 646 Germantown Pike, formerly known as Barren Hill Tavern and Brewpub (and prior to that, the General Lafayette Inn). All of the brewing equipment has been removed and the future eatery will feature culinary offerings of a different variety.

With an anticipated opening date later in August, The General will offer American cuisine with a twist—a sushi bar included! The new owners Bob Devine and Nick Ciaffone, who are also involved with the From the Boot restaurants, have hired chef Michael DeLone to head up the kitchen and another chef to handle the sushi.

The building, which has been in existence since the 1700’s, boasts a historic feel while the interior, which is being remodeled by designer Diana Schwartz, will blend rustic and contemporary décor.

Devine and Ciaffone’s original From The Boot concept started in 1999 just down the street, and the owners are eager to bring something new to the neighborhood which has embraced them for so long. The duo holds a strong belief that their concept will serve as a complement to the other restaurants nearby, while bringing even more traffic and business to the area as a whole.

Be sure to visit The General’s Facebook page for updates as to a concrete opening date and make sure to patronize the new spot once it opens up later this summer.

The General will be located at 646 Germantown Pike in Lafayette Hill.
